Celebrate National Poetry Month by entering our second annual teen poetry contest! Youth in grades 7-12 can submit an original poem for a chance to win a gift card and have their poem printed in a booklet anthology.

Poems will be judged in three grade categories: 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12. The top five poems in each grade category will have their poems printed in a booklet anthology that will be distributed to the finalists and be on display at the library.

The top two poems in each category will receive a gift card prize: $50 for first place and $30 for second place.

Pick up an entry form at Claremont Library. You can submit the completed entry form and your poem by dropping it off or mailing it to Claremont Helen Renwick Library. You can also email your entry form and poem to pespinosa@library.lacounty.gov. 

The deadline for submission is April 30, 2024. Finalists will be contacted by May 18. 

Contest Rules:

All poets must be in grades 7-12
All submissions must be original works written by the young poet submitting the entry
Only one (1) entry per poet
Entries must not exceed 25 lines 
Poems should be typed or printed in neat handwriting
Winners must be able to pick up their prize by June 8, 2024

About the branch

Claremont Library was founded in 1914. It has been at its current location since 1928. The present building opened on April 25, 1975. The Friends of the Claremont Public Library was founded in 1957.
