Do you find yourself attracted to the strange and unusual? Do you enjoy what others may find frightening? If so, join the Horror Book Club where each month we'll provide you with diverse horror authors and titles to discuss with people who enjoy the same genre as you. During this session, we'll be discussing Cassandra Khaw's, Nothing But Blackened Teeth and The Salt Grows Heavy. You can read one or both titles.
Nothing But Blackened Teeth, is a short, creepy haunted house tale, brimming with Japanese folklore, cleverly reveals the monstrousness in ordinary human callousness--we're awful not from horrendous actions or beliefs, but because we just react and shout each other down.
The Salt Grows Heavy, what if the Little Mermaid laid eggs and her hatched children's hunger laid waste to her prince's land? The mermaid, who's been held captive and rendered mute by her husband, meets up with the only survivor in the land, a plague doctor. This compelling tale features strong worldbuilding, innovative uses of body-horror tropes, and lush language. For fans of sinister, thought-provoking, horrific retellings of Western classics by authors of marginalized identity like Helen Oyeyemi and Ahmed Saadawi.
