COMMUNITY
The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning from Tuesday, July 14 through Thursday, July 16. While all LA County Libraries offer a break from the heat during normal hours, many locations have been activated as Cooling Centers with extended hours.
Join us as we celebrate our living Chicanidad! This event will feature short plays, spoken word and poetry that celebrates the vibrant culture and talent of the Chicanx community.
Sponsors Operation Street Kidz and Samantha Nieves have gathered together some of the best Chicanx voices to present their living work. The event features the short plays, Awakening, written by Maria Martinez and directed by Jacqueline Guido, El Camino del Jardinero written and performed by Miguel Angel Lopez, and excerpts from Electricidad by Luis Alfaro performed by Julia Chavez. Professor Robert Cristo will share his presentation, The Chicano Movement: Vive y Sigue. A monologue by Valerie Vega and the poetry of Samantha Nieves and Vibiana Aparicio Chamberlin will round out this wonderful celebration.
