Celebrate African American and Black History Month! Learn about the life and art of Alma Thomas and create your own art piece inspired by her paintings. For children ages 6 - 12, with their adult caregiver.

Celebrate African American and Black history while we learn how to make beautiful and vibrant art in the style of Alma Thomas, a Black artist who was famous for her abstract paintings. This groundbreaking artist was the first African-American woman to have her painting shown in the White House.

Attendance is limited, and advance registration is required. Please register every individual in your party, including kids. This will be used to save your spots in the program. We cannot guarantee availability for any unregistered attendees.

About the branch

The first Westlake Village Daniel K. Ludwig Library was dedicated on March 27, 1993. The library operates under a joint agreement between the City of Westlake Village and the County of Los Angeles Public Library.

The library was named after Westlake Village developer and visionary, Daniel K. Ludwig. The library moved to a brand new and larger facility on February 5, 2002.

This will be a 2 part program. The first program will be dedicated to shaping and imprinting our botanical designs. In the second program, we will be painting the clay. You must attend both programs in order to complete the project. For adults.
