Join us in celebrating African American and Black History Month at the library by writing down our dreams! For ages 5 - 12 with a parent or caregiver.

We will learn about how African American and Black people have used dreams to help them throughout history. Then, you will have a chance to put your dreams for 2025 -and beyond- on paper, so you can watch them come to life!

Attendance is limited and advanced registration is recommended. You may register by phone, in-person or online at Visit.LACountyLibrary.org/Events and filter by location or event date.

About the branch

On February 22, 1973, the City of Lakewood, in cooperation with the County of Los Angeles Public Library, opened the George Nye, Jr. Library.

The library is named for Lakewood Mayor George H. Nye, Jr. who died while serving in office in May 1971.

The library is the second in the city and serves the population of the eastern area of the city which includes eight elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school.

An active Friends of the Library group was formed in 1972 and supports both Lakewood libraries - George Nye, Jr. and Angelo M. Iacoboni.
