Join us for an evening learning about notable women in ocean science. As we learn about these significant women, we will be making sea-themed mosaic coasters. For adults.

Join us for an evening learning about notable women in ocean science from Maria Mitchell, the first woman to work for the U.S. Coast Survey, to Sylvia Earle, a marine biologist named by Time Magazine's first Hero for the Planet in 1998. As we learn about these significant women, we will be making sea-themed mosaic coasters.

All materials will be provided and available on a first come, first serve basis. Attendance is limited, and advance registration is required. We cannot guarantee availability for any unregistered attendees.

About the branch

The library was built by the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors in 1976 to serve the Marina clientele. The William R. Pagen Nautical Wing and the Greg and Mimi Wenger Community Room were added in 1999 through the efforts of the Marina Foundation, the Board of Supervisors and the County of Los Angeles Public Library.

The Marina del Rey Library was renamed the Lloyd Taber-Marina del Rey Library by the Board of Supervisors in recognition of the main donor to the project. Since the Marina is a small craft harbor used for recreational purposes, the Lloyd Taber-Marina del Rey Library has developed a Nautical Collection to serve the informational needs and interests of small boaters.
