Local author and whitewater rafting guide Bridget Crocker will discuss her new memoir, 'The River's Daughter'. For adults.

Showcase: Local Authors Series presents Bridget Crocker discussing her new memoir, The River's Daughter.

Bridget Crocker is a trailblazer in women’s empowerment in the outdoor industry. A leading whitewater rafting guide in far-flung regions of Zambia, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Peru, Chile, Costa Rica, India, and the Western United States. Her work has been featured in magazines such as Westways, National Geographic Adventure, Trail Runner, and Patagonia’s blog, The Cleanest Line, among others. In The River’s Daughter, we follow a young Crocker on a gripping and inspiring adventure through adversity as she finds empowerment through her relationship with the rivers she navigates as one of the world’s foremost female rafting guides.

Elle Johnson is a TV writer and executive producer whose credits include "Law and Order" and "CSI Miami." Johnson’s 2021 debut memoir, The Officer’s Daughter, is the story of family tragedy and forgiveness.

Together, Crocker and Johnson will discuss the parallels they faced while navigating hardship and tragedy.

Showcase: Local Authors Series is an extension of the Malibu Library Speaker Series. It is a free program of LA County Library and the City of Malibu. The program features published authors who live and write in Malibu. Copies of The River's Daughter will be for sale at the event.

About the branch

Malibu Library, located in the Malibu Civic Center Complex, was established in 1970 by the County of Los Angeles Public Library. Prior to 1970, a bookmobile provided library service to the Malibu community serving residents in Topanga Canyon and along the Pacific Coast Highway.

On April 22, 2012, a grand opening celebration was held to mark the completion of a $6 million renovation of the Malibu Library, designed by the architectural firm of LPA, Inc. and funded by revenue generated from local property taxes.

The new sustainable, LEED-certified library has been redesigned to represent Malibu's sand, sea and sun culture with features such as:

-A replica of the Adamson House tile rug in the main lobby
-A photographic exhibit featuring historical images of the area
-The Children's area featuring a marine life motif, including an 8' by 14' porcelain tile art piece designed by artist Christine Nguyen
-A Teen area that embraces Malibu's surf culture.
