Dr. Nahum Melamed will discuss how NASA/JPL are mitigating space debris and asteroids. For adults.

The increasing amount of space debris, defunct human made objects in Earth orbit, is a serious threat to active satellites and crewed space missions. Scientists track near-Earth asteroids to assess the risk of potential impacts and how to defend against them. Dr. Nahum Melamed, a project leader at The Aerospace Corporation, will discuss the basics of planetary defense, including the NASA/JPL Near-Earth Object Deflection App, and the interplanetary kinetic impactor spacecraft.

This program will be held in Hawthorne Library's Training Room.
