Join us for a screening of Argo, the gripping true story a daring rescue mission during the Iran hostage crisis. For ages 18 and older. Rated R.

On November 4, 1979, Iranian militants stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in retaliation for the U.S. granting asylum to the ousted Shah. While 66 Americans were taken hostage, six escaped and found refuge in the home of Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. Argo dramatizes this tense mission—known as the “Canadian Caper” to bring them home. Based on the book Argo: How the CIA and Hollywood Pulled Off the Most Audacious Rescue in History by Antonio Mendez (2012). A copy will be on display during the screening.

About the branch

Established in 1938 as the Keystone Branch, the library merged with the Carson Branch in 1959. The present building was opened in 1972 and serves 19.24 square miles.
