Join us for a discussion around creating and crafting genre fiction: how does genre fit into the wider world of writing, how to keep it fresh, and how to make it your own.

Genre fiction -- like mystery, romance, or horror stories -- makes up a huge part of our reading diets, and they're a ton of fun to write, too. Our panelists will be in conversation around genre as a creative space, what it's like working within the "rules" of the story, and how they've made that space and those rules their own.

This panel will take place in the West Hollywood Library Community Meeting Room.

Book signing to follow at 4:10 pm in West Hollywood Park.

Aimee Lim grew up in the San Gabriel Valley in Southern California. She has a BA in English with an emphasis on creative writing from the University of California, Davis, as well as a Master’s in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University. Her debut novel, The Spindle of Fate, was written in collaboration with Cake Creative Kitchen and published by Macmillan/Feiwel & Friends. It was named one of the top ten kids’ debuts of summer/fall 2024 by the American Booksellers Association’s Indies Introduce List, as well as a Good Housekeeping Best Kids Book Award winner. Her second book, The Thread of Destiny, published in 2025. She also won Jeopardy!

Edward Underhill grew up in the suburbs of Wisconsin, where he could not walk to anything, so he had to make up his own adventures. He studied music in college, spent several years living in very small apartments in New York, and currently resides in California with his partner and a talkative black cat. He is the author of The In-Between Bookstore, as well the YA novels Always the Almost, This Day Changes Everything, and In Case You Read This. His books have earned starred reviews, been named Indie Next selections and LibraryReads Top 10 picks, and been included on numerous “best of the year” lists, including from YALSA, School Library Journal, and Booklist.
