Join us to make a bird pin inspired by a popular craft among incarcerated Japanese Americans during World War II. For adults.

Wooden bird pins were carved by hand, painted, and worn as brooches or pins that were small and powerful expressions of beauty and individuality. 

This program is part of One Book, One Coast which brings together library systems across California, Washington State, and Oregon for a shared community reading program that celebrates literacy, learning, community, and civil discourse.

About the branch

Bell Gardens Library first opened in August, 1938 at 5656 Live Oak St. As the City of Bell Gardens grew and expanded, so did the library.

On September 22, 1958 the library moved to 7515 Eastern Ave. (a store front location).

The library moved to its current location, 7110 S. Garfield Avenue, on May 7th, 1970. On July 21, 2007 the library had a Grand Re-Opening ceremony to celebrate a 6-month major refurbishment project.
