About the branch

Hawaiian Gardens Library was founded in 1974 with a bookmobile serving the community. The next site for the library was at 12134 Tilbury Street (the former city hall); it served the community from 1979 until December 1987.

On January 19, 1988, the library was relocated to a 2,000 square foot building in the Hawaiian Gardens Town Center. The official dedication was held on March 9, 1988.

In 1989, the facility was expanded to 4,000 square feet. An open house, with City and County dignitaries attending, was held on October 18, 1989.

The Hawaiian Gardens Library moved to a new 5,585 square foot building that is shared with the City of Hawaiian Gardens Public Safety Center at 11940 Carson Street in December 2008.
