COMMUNITY
The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning from Tuesday, July 14 through Thursday, July 16. While all LA County Libraries offer a break from the heat during normal hours, many locations have been activated as Cooling Centers with extended hours.
Join our Friends of the Walnut Library as they sell a wide selection of children, teen, adult, and foreign language books. All books will be priced at $0.50 each. This sale will be held in the meeting room of Walnut Library.
The Friends of the Walnut Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit association of community-minded individuals committed to focusing public attention on the library’s services and to encouraging gifts and donations in support of the library.
Walnut Library was founded in March 1916 in the original Walnut Elementary School. It was maintained there until 1964 when bookmobile service was initiated to better serve the area.
When the Walnut population increased, a 3,250 square foot rental storefront at 134 N. Pierre Street was opened in 1970. The library has been at the present location since February 13, 1985.
