Join LA County Librarian and Director, Dr. Skye Patrick, for a conversation with legendary surfer and author, Shaun Tomson.

As a former World Surfing Champion and one of the most influential figures in modern wave-riding history, Tomson revolutionized professional surfing in the 1970s with his pioneering style and deep-barrel riding. But beyond his historic athletic career and success as an entrepreneur, he has dedicated his life to inspiring others to navigate the turbulent waves of change and challenge with hope and purpose.

In this engaging conversation, Dr. Patrick and Tomson will dive into the core philosophies of his bestselling books, including Surfer’s Code: 12 Simple Lessons for Riding Through Life. They will explore the nature of resilience, the strength found in community, and how anyone can build a personal "code" to find balance and ride out life’s toughest swells.

Shaun Tomson is a former World Surfing Champion, bestselling author, keynote speaker, and creator of The Code Method, a purpose-driven framework focused on resilience, leadership, and personal responsibility. Best known for his book Surfer’s Code, Tomson has shared his message with audiences ranging from schools and universities to global companies, drawing on a life shaped by sport, adversity, and a deep commitment to helping people live with greater purpose and hope in turbulent times.
