Discover the art of nib calligraphy in this immersive 8-week course designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Elevate your handwriting or explore a new creative outlet! Registration required. For adults.

This is an 8-week weekly program. Only sign up if you can commit to the weekly schedule. Please make sure you are able to attend before registering. Once the registration period has ended, there will be no additional sign-ups.

Attendance is limited, and advance registration is required. This will be used to save your spots in the program. We cannot guarantee availability for any unregistered attendees.

There is a 15-minute grace period for lateness on October 6th, 2026. If you do not show up on the first day, you will be removed from the workshop entirely.

LEARNING OUTLINE (subject to change)

Week 1: Introduction to Nib Calligraphy, Faux Calligraphy (Pencil and Pen), "Modern Calligraphy, " Tools of the Trade

Week 2: Basic Strokes

Week 3: Basics Strokes continued

Week 4: Lowercase Letters

Week 5: Uppercase Letters

Week 6: Add some style

Week 7: Add some bounce

Week 8: Putting it all together. Final exam.

About the branch

Friendly El Monte, the End of the Santa Fe Trail, was incorporated in 1912. The city was once home to Gay's Lion Farm during the 1930s and famous for the roaring lion on MGM's logo.

The El Monte Library was founded in 1890, and joined the Los Angeles County Public Library in 1913. It has been at its present location since 1967.
