To celebrate the reopening of Masao W. Satow Library, LA County Library and Supervisor Holly Mitchell will host an Open House on Thursday, July 29 from 11 am to 1 pm.

The Open House will feature an outdoor activity for children and teens, a walkthrough of the library’s newly refurbished space, and special messages from Supervisor Mitchell and LA County Library Director Skye Patrick.

About the branch

In 1958, two branches (Moneta, opened in 1913 and Strawberry Park opened in 1919) merged into West Gardena Library. A fire in 1969 caused the branch to move into a new building.

The new building located at 14433 S. Crenshaw, was dedicated on February 26, 1977, in honor of Mr. Masao William Satow. Mr. Satow (1908-1976) was a Japanese-American of monumental distinction. He helped in the shaping of the lives of young adults in the community.
