Join Norwood Library's Book Club for an engaging discussion of our latest selection, "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" by Lisa See. For Adults.

At the tender age of seven, Lilly and Snow Flower are paired with each other (laotong or “old same”) in an emotional match that will last a lifetime. Together, they endure the agony of foot-binding, reflect upon their arranged marriages, shared loneliness, and the joys and tragedies of motherhood.  The two girls find solace, developing a bond that keeps their spirits alive.  When a misunderstanding arises, their deep friendship suddenly threatens to tear apart.

If you would like a copy of the book, please drop by Norwood Library to pick up a copy or get a digital copy here (you will need your library card).

Attendance is limited, and advance registration is required. Please register every individual in your party, including kids. This will be used to save your spots in the program. We cannot guarantee availability for any unregistered attendees.

This event is held in-person. LA County Public Health strongly encourages masks and physical distancing indoors regardless of vaccination status. Masks will continue to be available for customers upon request. Please see the Guidelines for Attendees during the registration process for more information.

About the branch

The original Norwood Library opened on November 22, 1950 as a storefront library at 4772 Peck Road. The library was opened to provide service to residents of the unincorporated area north of the city of El Monte.

The city annexed this area in the early 1960's. Property for a larger site was purchased in 1967. Finally, on April 15, 1977, the new Norwood Library opened at this address.

The library has an active Friends of the Library which strongly supports library programs and services.
