The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning from Tuesday, July 14 through Thursday, July 16. While all LA County Libraries offer a break from the heat during normal hours, many locations have been activated as Cooling Centers with extended hours.
Join our monthly book club for an engaging discussion of our latest selection, "The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig.
New members are always welcome. Copies of the Book Club books will be available for pick-up one month prior to the book club meeting date.
Upcoming selection: "Blackmail and Bibingka" by Mia P. Manansala.
This event is held in-person. LA County Public Health strongly encourages masks and physical distancing indoors regardless of vaccination status. Masks will continue to be available for customers upon request. Please see the Guidelines for Attendees during the registration process for more information.
Hacienda Heights Library first opened January 25, 1960 at 1016 S. Hacienda Blvd. & Gale Avenue in a leased 3,000 square foot building, with Mrs. Clara Mohlengraft as librarian.
In 1966 it moved to a 1,100 square foot double trailer at 2054 S. Hacienda Blvd. near Halliburton Rd., with Dorthy Nichols in charge.
The current library of 10,400 square feet was opened in Nov. 1972 by then Supervisor Pete Schabarum and Librarian Mary Jane Merrel.
Following a renovation in summer 1992, the library reopened in its present location, with Charles Kaufman as the Community Library Manager. John McClellan was the Community Library Manager from 1996 to March 2002.
