In celebration of Juneteenth, the library invites you to help us build a community quilt! Pick up instructions and a paper quilt square at the Customer Service Desk then write or draw what freedom means to you. For all ages

Juneteenth is a holiday, celebrated annually on June 19, that remembers the day in 1865 when word came to enslaved people in Galveston Texas, that they were free – two years after the President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.

To contribute to our Community Quilt, please return your completed quilt square to the Rowland Heights Library by Saturday, June 17. The community quilt will be displayed in the library during the week of June 19, 2023.

About the branch

Originally Rowland Heights, an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County, was part of the Workman Temple Homestead in California's rancho days.

Since the 1990's Rowland Heights has been in a steadily upward growth mode, serving an estimated (1996) population of 48,488 plus surrounding areas.

Rowland Heights Library opened in Eastwood Shopping Center on July 21, 1971. The Library moved to its current building on Nogales on April 20, 1979. It was refurbished in 1990.

A new refurbishment was completed in 2018 that completely updated and renovated the interior of the library.
