In another program in celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, Compton Library is partnering with MUSIC to the Ears and Academix BEAT Lab to bring your teens a free DJing workshop series. DJing is the perfect blend of music and creativity, allowing students to express themselves in unique and exciting ways. With the skills and knowledge gained through our workshop series, students will have the opportunity to take their love of music and express themselves through the ART of DJing. We will use music, media and arts education as a gateway for students to discover, explore and develop their talents, while also preparing them for creative and career pathways in the music, media, and entertainment industry. This program will help students discover their capacity for creativity, technological innovation, and entrepreneurship.

MUSIC to the Ears and Academix BEAT Lab are a full-service industry sector partner and provider for education, entrepreneurship and entertainment career training service. They combine their expertise, network, and resources to expose, educate, develop and prepare students for creative and career pathways. They work with key community partners to implement targeted education and career training programs focused on music, creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Attendance is limited, and advance registration is suggested. Please register every teen for this program as attendance is limited. This will be used to save your spots in the program. We cannot guarantee availability for any unregistered attendees. This program will also be live streamed to our YouTube Channel at YouTube.com/LACountyLibrary/streams

For in-person attendance, LA County Public Health strongly encourages masks and physical distancing indoors regardless of vaccination status. Masks will continue to be available for customers upon request. Please see the Guidelines for Attendees during the registration process for more information.

**This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Los Angeles County's 2nd District, and the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture.

About the branch

Compton Library branch of the Los Angeles County Free library opened its doors in July of 1913, the 11th branch of today's LA County Library.

The library was located in a storefront building near Main and Tamarind Streets and was later moved to the Compton Union High School at 212 S Acacia Street.

In 1925 a separate building was erected in the City Hall Park at 123 W Almond Street, where it remained until 1974, when the current facility was dedicated at 240 W Compton Boulevard.
