In celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, we cannot go without including Straight Outta Compton! A live screening and collaborative discussion will be facilitated between Compton Library, AC Bilbrew Library, Willowbrook Library, and View Park Bebe Moore Campbell Library. Snacks will also be provided for the event. Straight Outta Compton is rated R by the MPAA for language throughout, strong sexuality/nudity, violence, and drug use.

Persons under 17 are only permitted to enter with an adult and must be accompanied throughout the entire feature by the adult.

Please be aware that refreshments will be served at this program.  A list of ingredients will be available.

Attendance is limited, and advance registration is suggested. This will be used to save your spots in the program. We cannot guarantee availability for any unregistered attendees. For in-person attendance, LA County Public Health strongly encourages masks and physical distancing indoors regardless of vaccination status. Masks will continue to be available for customers upon request. Please see the Guidelines for Attendees during the registration process for more information.

About the branch

Compton Library branch of the Los Angeles County Free library opened its doors in July of 1913, the 11th branch of today's LA County Library.

The library was located in a storefront building near Main and Tamarind Streets and was later moved to the Compton Union High School at 212 S Acacia Street.

In 1925 a separate building was erected in the City Hall Park at 123 W Almond Street, where it remained until 1974, when the current facility was dedicated at 240 W Compton Boulevard.
