Join the Pico Rivera Library Book Club as we discuss Jose Alberto Urrea's novel The House of Broken Angels for Hispanic Heritage Month. For adults.

In his final days, beloved and ailing patriarch Miguel Angel de La Cruz, also known as big Angel, summoned his family for one last legendary birthday party. When his mother passes away unexpectedly, it turns the party into a farewell doubleheader. For two days in San Diego, the family celebrates the lives of Big Angel and his mother and recounts the tales that passed into family lore, the acts both heroic and ordinary that brought them to the United States and allowed the family to flourish in the land they have come to call home.

About the branch

Founded in 1917, the new 16,000 square foot library was dedicated on December 14, 2013. It replaced the old 7,700 square foot circular library constructed in 1961. Funding for the new LEED rated library was provided by the City of Pico Rivera and Supervisorial District 1.

It is the larger of the two libraries serving the city and provides support services for two smaller libraries in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
