This fall, LA County Library offers a series of virtual roundtable conversations exploring the intersections between community service in libraries and in faith organizations. These interfaith dialogues will bring together religious leaders from a diversity of traditions to discuss the ways in which libraries and faith-based organizations can work side by side to encourage soulful wellbeing in our communities. The purpose of these conversations is to encourage a broader understanding of the types of organizations that provide care and service to our communities, an understanding that promotes opportunities for partnership and connection between libraries and faith organizations.
The first event in this series is titled “The Purpose of Service,” and will explore the purpose behind community service, and what motivates the commitments of our faiths and our institutions in working towards collective wellbeing. Joining the conversation this week are Rev. Jana Milhon-Martin, Nirinjan Singh Khalsa, Elder Scott Tanner, and Roy Twobears Delarosa.
The Rev. Jana Milhon-Martin is an Episcopal priest and CPE Diplomate Supervisor. She currently serves as the Director for The Center for Lay Chaplaincy in the Los Angeles Episcopal Diocese. Scott Tanner currently represents the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Public Affairs for the area encompassing the Southwestern part of Los Angeles County and the San Fernando Valley. Nirinjan Singh Khalsa has served as a Commissioner on the City of Los Angeles Human Relations Commission for more than fifteen years and is the Executive Director of the California Sikh Council. Roy Twobears Delarosa is the spiritual advisor for the Native American Veterans Association. He is Yaqui/Apache and is recognized by the Native American Orthodox Church of America.
