Middle Grade Book Club

In-Person Program

Join us for a new book club for middle grade readers! We're starting off with "One Crazy Summer" by Rita Williams-Garcia. Come share your thoughts on some of the best stories of all time and enjoy a book-themed activity. For ages 10 – 14.

Copies of the book will be available at the library. 

Eleven-year-old Delphine is like a mother to her two younger sisters, Vonetta and Fern. She's had to be, ever since their mother, Cecile, left them seven years ago for a radical new life in California. But when the sisters arrive from Brooklyn to spend the summer with their mother, Cecile is nothing like they imagined.
While the girls hope to go to Disneyland and meet Tinker Bell, their mother sends them to a day camp run by the Black Panthers. Unexpectedly, Delphine, Vonetta, and Fern learn much about their family, their country, and themselves during one truly crazy summer.

Claremont Library was founded in 1914. It has been at its current location since 1928. The present building opened on April 25, 1975. The Friends of the Claremont Public Library was founded in 1957.
