Join us as we learn about rocks in indigenous culture from Lazaro Arvizu. We will use traditional methods to create pendants and miniature sculptures out of soapstone. For ages kids 5 - 12

Kids will learn about Indigenous California cultural lifeways, the Southern Channel Islands, and about rocks and minerals in California.

Please note kids will not use any metal or power tools for this activity, only sandpaper.

About the branch

Founded in 1917, the new 16,000 square foot library was dedicated on December 14, 2013. It replaced the old 7,700 square foot circular library constructed in 1961. Funding for the new LEED rated library was provided by the City of Pico Rivera and Supervisorial District 1.

It is the larger of the two libraries serving the city and provides support services for two smaller libraries in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
