Join us for a paper craft activity at the Chicano Resource Center as we learn about the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, or Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe. December 12th is a deeply meaningful holiday in México and a major celebration for Catholics across Latin America and its diaspora. La Virgencita, as she is lovingly called, is a national symbol of mestizaje through her Indigenous ties to Tonantzin and venerated as an embodiment of Earth, fertility, and maternal love. Her connection to Indigeneity and Mexican identity has made her a central spiritual figure in Chicane culture, representing feminine strength, hope, and resistance. Many people keep shrines dedicated to la Virgencita, to which this shadow box can become a beautiful addition.
