Join us for our ongoing artist conversations series. This month’s artist is East LA based Michael Amescua. Mr. Amescua has created many public art works throughout the LA area and has been an artist in residence with Self-Help Graphics.

Co-sponsors the Mexican Cultural Institute of Los Angeles and East LA Library’s Chicano Resource Center are very pleased to present a conversation with artist Michael Amescua. Mr. Amescua is best known for his public art projects throughout the LA area and beyond. These include works at the MTA Gateway Transit Center, Paseo Colorado in Pasadena, and LA County’s Chatworth Courthouse. Using steel as his primary medium, his work takes its inspiration from the Latin American custom of papel picado, or paper cutouts - often seen during religious festivities and celebrations.
