Our Book Club meets on the last Wednesday of every month in the Study Room. 

August's Book Pick is Remember, You Are a Wiley by Maya Wiley

A small number of copies will be available for checkout on July 29, 2026.

About the Book

A personal and political story about growing up in a family deeply committed to civil rights activism. Wiley reflects on the loss of her father, activist George Wiley, the challenges of race, gender, and identity, and her own journey into law, advocacy, and public service. Through stories of trauma, resilience, and hope, she argues that activism and community can help people confront injustice and create change.

About the branch

Friendly El Monte, the End of the Santa Fe Trail, was incorporated in 1912. The city was once home to Gay's Lion Farm during the 1930s and famous for the roaring lion on MGM's logo.

The El Monte Library was founded in 1890, and joined the Los Angeles County Public Library in 1913. It has been at its present location since 1967.
