Poets and writers can take charge of their own publishing and literary careers. In this class, we will consider the pros and cons of different formats, discuss business plans, and book promotion strategies. For adults.
With the longer timelines and competitive nature of traditional publishing, self-publishing or starting a micropress are ways to get your work out there. At the end of this session, students will have resources and empowered analysis on options for individual publishing goals.

Jen Cheng is the Fifth Poet Laureate of West Hollywood (2023-2026). As an indie artist with a commitment to social justice, she has experience with various publishing projects, from zines for high school poets as part of her project as a Poet Laureate Fellow with the Academy of American Poets to other projects such as partnering with a hybrid publisher and starting a micropress. Cheng's best-selling poetry collection Braided Spaces (2023) is re-released in 2026 with a second edition. She recorded selected poems from Braided Spaces as a limited edition EP vinyl record, Braided Spaces: Trenza 1. She is the publisher of a 2026 immigrant rights anthology, Butterflies Over Land. She is the creator and a mentor of the Fountain Fellows project, inviting emerging poets and writers to apply to the mentorship project for chapbook publication. West Hollywood Library began service to the area (then unincorporated ) in 1913. The library was previously located at Sherman School, a cottage on Clark Street, a building on Westbourne Drive, and a building near the present site. The Library has an active Friends of the Library group.
The new library was dedicated October 1, 2011.
